CHINA! The Summer
Palace & June 28 |
|
The Summer Palace is a palace that was built for the Empress Dowager Cixi. It has a man-made lake called Kumming lake and a mountain made from the dirt from where the lake is. We got to take a boat ride on Kumming lake.
Beijing is a city that is under so much construction,
it's unbelievable. I took lots of pictures of cranes just to
demonstrate how much construction is actually going on. People in
the group thought I was weird for taking pictures of construction cranes
in China, but I thought
it was interesting! Because we were somewhat of a dignitary-type group, due to our large group, and being that we were a choir (and the tour planners having connections), we got to eat a wonderful dinner at the Great Hall of the People. It is sort of like our White House, being that it's the national reception hall for China and a place where a lot of Chinese policy decisions are made. Our tour guide Jenny told us that Beijing is the political capital of China while Shanghai is the economic capital of China.
